Boardroom is the only dating app for professionals. Since we launched Boardroom two years ago, our mission has stayed the same: To help professionals find love.

We do this by requiring all users to connect their LinkedIn profile when signing up. While we never use any LinkedIn data on the users' profile, it's an important step to verify profiles for authenticity.

After analysing two years worth of behavioural data on how professionals use dating apps, one surprising insight that emerged was the success of users on the app depending on which operating system they were using. As it turns out, iOS users are more likely to be successful than Android users.

Uncovering the data

After analysing over 8 million swipes, we observed that iPhone users received 15 right swipes per 100 swipes received, while Android users received 11 right swipes per 100 swipes received.

Breaking this data down by gender revealed a more interesting insight. Men using iOS received 45% more likes than men using android devices. However, it's not all doom and gloom for Android men, correlation is not causation.

Men on Android devices received 10.2 likes per 100 swipes on average

It comes down to photos

While the modern dating app Swiping UI has received much criticism over the years, some of its supporters believe that it mirrors how we instinctively navigate attraction in the real world.

On average, an adult encounters 40 unique faces every day. We make decisions on who we find attractive in milliseconds. We found this same pattern to be true in Boardroom. The average time it takes for a person to swipe left on a profile is 0.43 seconds after viewing it, while the average right swipe takes 23 seconds. This suggests that users make their swiping decisions based on the first photo.

Taken together, these insights suggest one thing: iPhone users may simply be capturing better photos.

"We highly encourage users to carefully pick out their photos. While meeting the Boardroom verification requirements signify that a strong set of criteria has been met, profiles are sometimes limited by low-quality images, selfies, or photos lacking clear facial visibility." - Wisani Shilumani, Co-founder of Boardroom
